Wednesday, 11 June 2008

On the 20th May 2008 in Dresden, Germany, Australia’s farmers and exporters achieved international recognition for their outstanding contribution to animal welfare, with livestock export industry body, LiveCorp, receiving the Animal Transportation Association’s (AATA) International Award at the AATA Annual Conference.

The AATA, a not-for-profit association dedicated to the safe and humane transportation of animals worldwide, presented LiveCorp with the International Award for its outstanding contribution to the welfare of animals in international commerce.

LiveCorp CEO Cameron Hall said international recognition of Australia’s commitment to animal welfare was a loud and positive endorsement of Australia’s livestock export industry.

“Australians should be proud that the strong partnership of the Federal Government and Australia’s farmers and exporters, through Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and LiveCorp, is receiving international applause for its ongoing and active commitment to improving animal welfare in Australia and in overseas destinations,” said Mr Hall.

“The active and tangible investment that Australia’s farmers and exporters make in animal welfare is delivering positive global results, which are being recognised around the world.

“Australia is a world-leader in the live transport of animals overseas. We are dedicated to improving standards in the countries we export to through investment in training, education and development of facilities and infrastructure. This award highlights Australia’s commitment to animal welfare to the rest of the world, and we will continue to play a crucial role in improving global animal welfare standards.”

AATA President Lisa Schoppa praised Australia’s livestock export industry for its commitment to improving animal welfare. “The AATA is pleased to present LiveCorp with the prestigious 2008 international Award. Australian farmers and exporters, via LiveCorp and MLA, are delivering outstanding improvements to the welfare of animals involved in the livestock transport industry,” said Ms Schoppa.

Mr Hall is attending the AATA conference, and will present tomorrow to international delegates on the Australian livestock export industry, focusing on ocean transport and animal welfare.

“This is a great opportunity for LiveCorp to share its successes and strategies with the international animal transportation community. We are always looking for new ways to improve welfare outcomes, and the conference provides a forum for industry members from around the world to share ideas and initiatives,” said Mr Hall.

Mr Hall also said he was looking forward to further showcasing the Australian livestock export industry at next year’s AATA conference, which will be held in Sydney.
